Globe WiMAX Review

WiMAX, meaning Worldwide Inter-operability for Microwave Access, is a telecommunications technology that provides wireless transmission of data using a variety of transmission modes, from point-to-multipoint links to portable and fully mobile internet access. The technology provides up to 3 Mbit/s broadband speed without the need for cables. The technology is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard (also called Broadband Wireless Access). The name "WiMAX" was created by the WiMAX Forum, which was formed in June 2001 to promote conformity and inter-operability of the standard. The forum describes WiMAX as "a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL".  -Wikipedia

WiMAX is based on 4G technology. What is 4G? 4G is a name given to the next generation of mobile technology. G stands for generation. 1G technology involved the first widely available analog mobile phones. 2G technology is an upgrade to a digital format and introduced text messaging. 3G technology improved the efficiency of how data is carried, making it possible to carry enhanced information services such as websites in their original format. One best known example of 3G technology is the iPhone.

I signed up for the Plan 995 Internet only with speed up to 1Mbps. Two days later, they came and install the service. During the installation I paid P500 only plus P100 snack for the technicians. From that I got my BM622i modem, one yellow Ethernet cord, power adapter, coaxial cable, and external antenna. The technician checked the modem for functionality. Hooked it up with my notebook and internet is flowing. Initially, they told me that my internet speed is at 512 Kbps. Give it 24 hours and it will be set on the speed I signed-up. The next thing was my wife and brother-in-law are enjoying checking their emails and logging on Facebook. They also told me that the P500 that I paid will be slashed off from my first monthly billing of P995. I only have to pay P495 on the next bill but that I still have to confirm if that is true since my 1st month is not up yet. After 24 hours, I did a speed test through various sites that offers it. My speed is still stuck at 512 Kbps. This went on for a week until I decided to go through Globe's Chat Assist as I don't have Globe as my mobile phone and don't have time to go to their business centers. So I chatted with two agents and finally they got it fixed. Run a test and I was amazed how it reached 1.10 Mbps download speed. I check the speed regularly to see if there are changes. Usually it is around 60% to 80% and sometimes 100% of the speed I subscribed. That is acceptable as per ISP policy. By the way, I use to work for Linksys, AT&T, Comcast, and Verizon. The policy about internet speed is that the customer is guaranteed to at least get 60% of the speed they subscribed. If they don't they may opt to discontinue service with no charge and they can sue the company.

Most of us are confused on the word "unlimited". Actually it is not unlimited but unmetered in the real sense. You don't pay by the hour. You can browse, surf the world wide web all you want and pay only the amount your plan is pegged. Unfortunately there is this thing we call the bandwidth cap. Wikipedia says: bandwidth cap, also known as a bit cap, limits the transfer of a specified amount of data over a period of time. Internet service providers commonly apply a cap when a channel intended to be shared by many users becomes overloaded, or may be overloaded, by a few users. Implementation of a bandwidth cap is sometimes termed a Fair Access Policy or Usage-based billing.

Click here for details on Globe's Fair Use Policy.

So for people who are frustrated about Globe WiMAX service you should have read the entire PLAN before you subscribe. Remember this rule of thumb:Be a well-informed consumer.
Conclusion:
As of the moment, I am happy with my Globe WiMAX internet service. I am a medium internet user. I use the internet to check emails, social networking, posting on forums, research, blogging, etc. I rate their customer service as good. However, I still need to see the billing and confirm if there are no hidden charges as what they said.
Your internet plan will be based on how you use it and what you do.

    1. Yes they can. You should ask your Internet Provider how to set up a password to your wimax.

    2. As I said, WIMAX is your connection to your PROVIDER and not how you connect your PC to your modem. WIMAX and WIFI are two different things. Wimax is how your modem connects to your provider. It does not need a password as the line is for your use ONLY. WIFI on the other hand is the way you connect your PC to your modem. This needs a password so that others who have wifi enabled devices could not connect to your source (modem/router). It would be best if you could talk to your ISP regarding how your modem/router works - know it's features.

    1. Go with the DSL, DLS is connected via Cable while Wimax is wireless. If you play online games/stream videos you need DSL but if your just into FB or Email Wimax is ok. but for reliable internet connection go with DSL.

Isa ako sa engineers ng Globe and our technology is reliable. Isa ka lang siguro sa mga abusado na akala mo meron kang sariling ISP kung magmura ka. We spent millions on these technologies tapos ipatatanggal mo lang? Katakot-takot na hirap at pagod inabot namin mapagsilbihan lang ang sambayanang Pilipino tapos ganyan ka magsalita? 22. At last I have seen a nice and fair review. this is true. So if your an average internet user eg. Check email or sign in to social networking sites, 4G/Wimax is for you. But if your into video streaming/Games 1080p 1st person shooter use DSL/Cable internet. :)

Is like this which is better wireless connection or wired connection? You know the answer.

But to those people who got stuck with this service, and 4G/Wimax is not for them, honestly I pitty you. Getting out of the contract is F** crazy you needs to pay 5K plus 2months of your bill? that BS for Globe.

  23. Globe Wimax is the biggest mistake we had. 3 mos. It was working fine. Then last Oct. 2012 to Dec 2012 if it's not too slow it's off. They said they are upgrading the connections blah blah. Then comes Jan 2013, we only get 3 days connection in that month. Then they were asking for paymens of landline phone bill for 2thou plus which was not in the plan we applied for. Globe said it is what is showing on their F***ing system. Stupid system isn't it. Then Feb was still no signal..still they said maintainance on there system. And finally came March still no signal. Frustrated and angry we asked them to cut it off. And they asked for payment for the non existing signal for 2 mos. And for the contract and for payment interest. Which accumulated to 10,800..So for those who want to have problems in your life with a F***ing worse system in the planet. Go ahead with Globe Wimax. I will just pray for you.

They said I was using data connection on the phone which happened once.Just 2 hours ago I decided to just re classify the stupid wimax into internet connection alone without the STUPID phone and they will charge me with 550 for re classification.. whatdaaaa!!

  27. I also had a problem in my wimax last year, I stuck and pissed for almost 1 month but the good thing there is they made adjustments in my bill for the time that I don't have connection.

  28. An agent from Globe called me once, offering the “WIMAX” promo plan 1099. This plan is inclusive of Globe Land line with unlimited calls to any globe land line and mobile phone and internet access with speed up to 1Mbps and what really called my attention was, when the agent told me that I have unlimited internet access, that I can download programs, movies, music and watch movie on youtube …etc. all I wanted. Since I had bad experience before with Globe, I told the agent to call back, I just want to make sure and research on the WIMAX product and service they are offering.

After a thorough research this Globe WIMAX plan is another deception. This companies (Globe, Smart, Sun, PLDT, Bayantel, Sky Broadband) will never tell us the real deal of our subscription plan. It is up to us to discover and learn after we already fall in to their money trap (lock-in-period). The worst part is that we can’t sue them but they can sue us.

  29. To all who plan to buy and used Globe Tattoo stick, please read this blog. don't be a victim!

Unlimited Internet access, there should be no boundary no matter how a user used/access the internet. Globe should keep the public inform about their “Fair Access Policy”, before they sold their product. I only learn about this policy after I bought and reach the 800Mbps download limit per day. But it’s already too late. Hope the government (NTC and/or DTI) should look in to this hidden policy.

  30. I just moved in to this new home of mine and unfortunately, I just discovered that our location can't have a DSL connection so I'm stuck with wireless services. I choose GHlobe wimax because it sounds pretty reliable and during the connection I asked the tech if it had a CAP. The tech responded that it doesn't have a CAP, so I decided to have it connected. Speed was pretty nice because I just subscribed on a 1Mbps internet only for 999/month. What followed then after 2 days was the worst, I could only get a good speed at around 12 midnight till 6am or somtimes till 9am and the speed usually goes down to 512Kbps and below. I had a dispatch team called to fix it and did you know what the tech said?! "normal na po yan SIR! kase dapat di na sila nagkakabit d2 sa area nyo because madami na pong nagpapakabit d2 at sobrang traffic na yung network d2 kaya mabagal talaga ang net". I was surprised, I stopped paying my bills and decided to have it DISCO. The service really sucks! No offense with GLOBE fan, I wish a DSL from PLDT is a available here.

  31. i'm amazed at how some people blame the ISPS about the whole "unlimited" thing. it's our job as consumers to research about the product we will be purchasing, so if we fail into the trap of false or incomplete advertising, no one is to blame but us. the bandwidth cap is prevalent in most ISPS even abroad, we ought to know that because we are responsible for our own purchases.

  34. Hi.. I am a WiMax (1Mbps) user for more than a year now and seems satisfied with the connection/service here in Bulacan.. I was just wondering if it's advisable to just buy a router using WiMax to have a WiFi connection or just change it to a Tattoo Mobile WiFi from Globe as well.. I'm having second thoughts cause I'm not sure if the Mobile WiFi is as reliable as the WiMax when it comes with the speed.. Hope you can help me decide.. Thanks ;)

  36. well wimax performance varies on your location. If you are line of sight of the globe tower, you can get a better signal strength. since wimax operate at 2.4 ghz, line of sight is more advantage compare to non line of sight.

  40. Just wanna know.. I am planning to subscribe with WiMax 999.. the globe man said that after installation i have to pay 999 for the internet 200 for the landline(5 months) and 1000 for installation fee... is this true?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes this is true. Kaya yung iba dito nagigigil na nka plan lang daw sila ng 999, then yung bill nila more than that. Ask muna nila kasi dapat yung customer service.

      first 3 month bale - 999 + charge 300plus (installation) + 200 for land line.
That makes it around 1400 - 1600 depende pa sa gamit mo sa landline.

Then yung pang 4th-5th month mo, mawawala ng yung 300+ (installation) so bale

999+200 (landline) = around 1200-1300 depende pa sa gamit mo ng landline.

Ibig sabihin yung plan 999 na sinasabe nila sa promotion ay papasok ng pang
      6month subscription mo.
